Your Effervescent Champagne Experience with a Private Car
A Toast to Luxury Travel
Your exclusive chauffeur-driven Champagne tour begins with a pick-up from your Paris hotel by your personal chauffeur. Settle into your luxury sedan or van and enjoy a serene drive through the French countryside towards the Champagne region. Your itinerary is flexible, but a typical day can include a visit to the magnificent Reims Cathedral, a tour of a prestigious Grande Maison de Champagne (like Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, or Taittinger), and a delightful lunch at a recommended local restaurant.
Explore the Avenue de Champagne
Stroll down the famous Avenue de Champagne in Épernay, a 'Champs-Élysées' of vineyards, home to many of the most famous producers. Your chauffeur will be on hand to transport you between tastings, manage any purchases, and ensure your day is as relaxing as it is fascinating. Whether you're a connoisseur or a curious novice, this private car to Champagne visit is an unforgettable experience.
Discover the Treasures of Champagne
The Champagne region is rich in history, culture, and, of course, Champagne. Here are some of the highlights you can explore during your private tour:
Reims Cathedral
A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the Reims Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the traditional coronation site of the kings of France. Admire its stunning stained-glass windows, including those designed by Marc Chagall, and its magnificent facade adorned with over 2,300 statues.
Grande Maison de Champagne
Visit one of the prestigious Champagne houses in Reims or Épernay, such as Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Taittinger, or Ruinart. Take a guided tour of their ancient chalk cellars, learn about the traditional method of Champagne making, and enjoy a tasting of their finest cuvées.
Avenue de Champagne
Stroll down the "Champs-Élysées of Champagne" in Épernay, a magnificent avenue lined with the headquarters of famous Champagne producers. Admire the stunning architecture of the mansions and courtyards, and perhaps enjoy a tasting at one of the many Champagne bars.
Hautvillers
Visit the charming village of Hautvillers, the "cradle of Champagne," where the monk Dom Pérignon is said to have discovered the secrets of Champagne making. Enjoy panoramic views of the Marne Valley vineyards and visit the tomb of Dom Pérignon in the local abbey church.

Getting to the Champagne region from Paris
The vineyards lie about 145 km east of Paris. Reims and Épernay are the two bases, and the choice between them shapes the day more than the choice of transport.
| Option | Journey | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| TGV to Reims | About 45 minutes from Gare de l'Est | Fast to Reims, but the houses and vineyards are spread out once you arrive — you will need a car or taxi anyway |
| Train to Épernay | Around 1h15 from Gare de l'Est | The Avenue de Champagne is walkable from the station; the surrounding villages are not |
| Private car | 1h30 to 2h door to door depending on traffic | Must be booked ahead — and it is the only option that lets everyone taste |
That last point is the practical argument, not a sales one. A tasting day where one of you has to stay sober to drive is a day half spent. It is also why the region's own producers recommend arriving with a driver.
Reims or Épernay?
Reims holds the grandes maisons — the names most visitors recognise — and the cathedral where French kings were crowned. The chalk cellars beneath the city, some Roman in origin, are part of what you come to see.
Épernay is smaller and more concentrated: the Avenue de Champagne runs for barely a kilometre with the great houses along it and roughly 200 million bottles ageing underneath. For a first visit with limited time, Épernay gives more per hour.
The villages between them — Hautvillers, where Dom Pérignon is buried, and the slopes of the Montagne de Reims — are where the smaller growers are, and they are only reachable by road.
Booking tastings: do it before you leave Paris
Most houses require an appointment, and the well-known ones are booked out weeks ahead in season. Turning up on the day works at some of the smaller growers and almost nowhere else.
Two or three visits is a realistic day. Each cellar tour with tasting runs an hour to ninety minutes, and the drive between houses is rarely less than twenty minutes. Four is possible but stops being enjoyable.
Tell us which houses you want when you book and we will build the timings around them, including the drive between each.
